About Me

Background
My aunt passed around the 2012 Passover haggadah and took her seat next to my mom at the head table. She then introduced what had been placed in front of everybody: Next Year in a Just World: A Global Justice Haggadah. For the next three hours I remained rooted to my chair, completely enthralled by my aunt’s ability to connect the ancient story of Jewish persecution with those of people who were suffering from some of the most pressing issues of the present. And so, my concern for social issues, policy, and politics runs deep. The women in my life always communicated principles of justice, equality, meaningful relationships, and human rights that nourished my mind and heart as a child and into my adulthood.
From an early age, I considered myself a “global citizen” and took interest in international issues. However, it was not until I started my academic career at UCSB as a Global Studies major and Spanish and Professional Writing minor that my global knowledge began to flourish. It was during this time that I was able to hone in on my desire to understand the gender dynamics that have shaped global, contemporary political systems and find ways to combat them to the best of my ability.
Professional and Beyond
This interest was even further developed by my professional experiences. I had the profoundly unique opportunity to intern alongside globally renowned women in leadership positions - award recipients, UN representatives, and NGO founders - during my time at the US Green Chamber of Commerce as an International Women's Climate Justice and Sustainability Research Consultant. Additionally, in my current role as a Legal Writing Intern at Her Lawyer, my responsibility to provide women seeking legal representation with the advice they need aligns perfectly with the principle of individual female empowerment.
When I am not working or in class, I work as a surf instructor at a children’s camp during the summer, backpack, hike, and enjoy anything that allows me to get outdoors.
Through my writing, I have developed new skills and capabilities, but more so, I have developed into a globally-aware, civically-engaged person with an understanding of the enormous impact of politics, and the incomparable powers of determination and voice.
